Did you buy something from Bloomingdale’s and want to return it?

You should know the Bloomingdale’s return policy to ensure you can return your purchase and get a refund.

According to the Bloomingdales return policy, you can return most items within 90 days to get a refund if the item is still in saleable condition.

What if you don’t have a receipt? What are items you can’t return?

I wrote this guide to answer these questions (and more). I’ll discuss the Bloomingdale’s return policy, including return exceptions and processes.

Let’s begin.

What Is the Bloomingdales Return Policy?

Bloomingdale’s lets you return most items within 90 days for a refund, provided you have the receipt and your purchase is still in saleable condition.

However, the return policy also has special guidelines and exceptions, which I’ll discuss later.

What If I Don’t Have My Receipt?

A Bloomingdales return without receipt is possible, but you won’t get a refund. Bloomingdale’s will only issue a merchandise or store credit based on the item’s lowest selling price in the last 180 days.

The store may ask for your name and address if they don’t have the information on file or can’t find your transaction in the system.

I recommend bringing at least one valid ID when returning merchandise to a Bloomingdale’s location.

Are There Exceptions to the 90-Day Return Policy?

Here are some items with specific return guidelines.

Designer Brands

Some Designer Brands, as mentioned below, must be returned within 30 days of purchase. However, markdowns within designer brand products are not returnable.

    Markdowns are non-refundable.

  • Chanel

    Return within 14 days. Markdowns are non-refundable.

  • Saint Laurent

    You can only return this brand’s items at Bloomingdale’s Saint Laurent Accessory boutiques on 59th Street, Roosevelt Field, Valley Fair, Century City, Glendale, or South Coast Plaza. You can bring the item in person or ship it back to one of these locations for online purchases.

  • Gucci handbags and accessories

    You must return these items within 14 days to 59th Street, Roosevelt Field, Tysons Corner Center, Century City, Glendale, or South Coast Plaza within 14 days.

  • Gucci Men’s accessories

    You must return these items within 14 days to 59th Street, Roosevelt Field, Tyson’s Corner Center, Century City, or Glendale.

  • Gucci Men’s shoes

    You must return these items within 14 days to 59th Street, Roosevelt Field, Tyson’s Corner Center, Century City, Glendale, South Coast Plaza, Aventura, Short Hills, Sherman Oaks, and Valley Fair.

    Note: You can bring online Gucci purchases in person or ship them back to one of these locations.

Note: Bloomingdale’s doesn’t accept returns for the following merchandise:

  • Worn

  • Washed

  • Damaged

  • Used

  • Modified

Area Rugs

You can return an area rug within 14 days.

You can return rugs you bought online by mail; you can’t return them to a physical store.

The rug must be in original condition and packing, and you’re responsible for return shipping fees.

Bloomingdale’s doesn’t accept returns for used, installed, or altered area rugs.


Certain dresses have “b-tags” attached to them. You can’t return these items once you remove the “b-tag.”

You can’t return items you’ve already worn, washed, damaged, used, or altered.

Indoor and Outdoor Furniture

If you intend to return the furniture due to personal preference, contact Bloomingdale’s Furniture and Bedding Customer Service at 1-800-323-7857 within three days of delivery.

Remember the following conditions if you’re returning furniture for preference reasons:

  • The furniture must still be in brand-new condition.

  • The delivery fee is non-refundable

  • Furniture protection plans are eligible for refunds.

  • Bloomingdale’s will charge you an applicable 15% restocking fee.

  • Preference-based furniture returns should be in pristine “as new” condition.

Contact customer service within three days of delivery if you see damage or imperfections in the furniture.

Bloomingdales Mattress Return Policy

If you’re unsatisfied with your mattress within 365 of buying it, contact a Bloomingdale’s sales professional to get a credit for a one-time reselection.

This one-time reselection is subject to the following fees:

  • First three months after delivery – 15% of the original purchase price

  • Three to six months after delivery – 20% of the original purchase price

  • Six to nine months after delivery – 30% of the original purchase price

  • Nine to Twelve months after delivery – 50% of the original purchase price

The original delivery fee is non-refundable, and the store will charge you a $110 fee to pick up your mattress, except in cases of manufacturer defects.

Hastens Mattresses

Hästens items aren’t eligible for one-time comfort reselection, and Bloomingdale’s only allows a one-time return for Hastens mattresses and bases.

You must keep the item for 30 days. After 30 days, you have another 30 days to return the item, subject to a 25% restocking fee.

You can’t return the second mattress you bought to exchange your original mattress. It’s a final sale purchase.

Pre-Owned Watches

If you’re unhappy with a pre-owned watch you bought at Bloomingdale’s, you can return it within 14 days.

However, you can return it by mail only with a Bloomingdale’s Easy Returns label.

Here are other requirements to return pre-owned watches.

  • The original tags are attached.

  • The item’s condition is brand new and unaltered.

  • The return package must include all original paperwork, receipts, and product packaging.

The Final Offer Merchandise

You can’t return or exchange The Final Offer merchandise.

Bloomingdales Perfume Return Policy

Under the Bloomingdales fragrance return policy, You can return most perfumes within 90 days of purchase for a full refund or exchange, provided they are still in saleable condition.

However, perfumes from designer brands will be under that specific brand’s special return policies.

Wedding and Registry Gifts

Schedule an appointment with your Registry Consultant for assistance on gift registry returns and exchanges.

Bloomingdale’s will provide merchandise or store credit and will need your Registry purchase list, original Bloomingdales receipt, or proof-of-purchase label.

If you don’t have a receipt or the item isn’t on your list, the store will grant credit based on the item’s lowest price in the last 180 days.

Bonus Gifts

You have two options for returning a bonus gift.

  1. You return the bonus gift alongside the merchandise.

  2. You keep the gift, and the store will charge you for its value.

Gift Cards (Including Promotional Gift Cards)

You must bring your receipt and Gift Card to your local Bloomingdale’s store to return it, subject to the following conditions.

  • The gift card still has its full value

  • The store will credit you via your original form of payment.

  • The store will process the credit within three to five days if you purchased the gift card with your Bloomingdale’s credit card.

  • The store may take longer to process the refund if you bought the gift card with a third-party credit card.

Promotional Gift Cards

Did you purchase an item and receive a promotional gift card from the store?

You must return that gift card with the item if you want to return the item.

If you return the item without the promotional gift card or the promotional card doesn’t have its full value, Bloomingdale’s will deduct that value from your refund.

Face Masks

You can’t return or exchange face masks because they’re final sale purchases.

Food and Beverages

You can’t return or exchange food and drinks.

Exchange Policy for Bloomingdale’s In-Store Purchases

You must exchange items purchased at a physical store at a Bloomingdale’s store location.

Bloomingdale’s will return the item if you attempt to exchange an in-store purchase by mail.

Furthermore, Bloomingdale’s isn’t responsible for items you purchase at a store and return to a fulfillment center.

Note: Bloomingdale’s allows store credits for eligible returns.

How To Exchange Items You Purchased at a Bloomingdale’s Store

Here’s how to exchange in-store purchases.

  1. Go to your nearest Bloomingdale’s store with the item you want to exchange and its original receipt (or gift receipt).

  2. Approach a Bloomingdale’s sales associate who will help you choose a suitable replacement or alternative item.

  3. After choosing your replacement item, the sales associate will process the exchange and provide you with any applicable adjustments.

    Bloomingdale’s will issue a merchandise credit based on the lowest price in the last 180 days without a receipt or proof of purchase.

Note: Bloomingdale’s may require your name and address for exchanges without a receipt might require your name and address. They may use your information for security and marketing purposes (terms and conditions in the Bloomingdale’s privacy policy apply).

Bloomingdales Exchange Policy for Outlet Online Purchases

Using the online return tool, you can exchange merchandise you bought on the Bloomingdale’s website within 90 days of shipment.

The following conditions apply:

  • You can exchange merchandise you bought from the Bloomingdale’s site at any Bloomingdale’s store location within 90 days of shipment.

  • The availability of items may differ between store locations, and Bloomingdale’s may not stock online items in all physical stores.

  • You can’t exchange online purchases cannot at Bloomingdale’s The Outlet Stores.

  • If the item you’re exchanging was a gift, Bloomingdale’s will mail you a gift card once they process the exchange.

  • You can’t exchange items you bought from third-party sellers.

How To Exchange Items You Purchased at Bloomingdale’s Online

Here’s how to process in-store exchanges for items you purchase online.

  1. Go to the nearest store and bring the item you want to exchange and the packing slip or invoice with the attached bar code.

  2. Approach a sales associate who will scan the bar code on your packing slip or invoice to complete the exchange.

Here are the requirements if you don’t have your packing slip or invoice.

  • The store can track your purchase if you used your Bloomingdale’s card to complete the transaction.

  • Without a receipt or Bloomingdale’s card, the store will credit the lowest selling price from the last 180 days.

  • Specific return and exchange guidelines apply (e.g., designer brands).

Can I Exchange Items I’ve Already Worn, Altered, or Damaged?

You can’t exchange items you’ve already worn, altered, damaged, used, or altered.

Additionally, items without the original attached Bloomingdale’s b-tags, designer tags, and any accompanying materials are ineligible for exchange.

Bloomingdale’s reserves the right to determine whether to grant the exchange.

Here’s how to return in-store purchases to a Bloomingdale’s location.

  1. Go to the nearest Bloomingdale’s outlet store and bring the item you want to return and its receipt. If it’s an online purchase, bring your packing slip or invoice.

  2. Approach any Bloomingdale’s associate for assistance. They will process your credit immediately.

  3. Wait for the refund to your original form of payment, which can take days, depending on your bank.

The store can credit your Bloomingdale’s account if you don’t have a receipt. You’ll receive store credit if you don’t have a Bloomingdale’s account.

Bloomingdales Return By Mail (For Online Purchases Only)

Here’s how to return online purchases by mail.

  1. Go to the Bloomingdale’s website and log in to your account using a desktop or laptop.

    Alternatively, enter your order number on the Bloomingdales Easy Returns page.

  2. Print the confirmation page and the shipping return label.

  3. Include the confirmation and invoice in your package.

  4. Stick the shipping label to the outside of the package.

  5. Bring the package to a UPS drop-off location.

Note: You must use a different shipping label for each return.

Return a Gift by Mail

Here’s how to return a gift by male.

  1. Search for the gift online using the order number on the Bloomingdale’s Order Status and History page.

  2. Select Yes next to Is this order a gift?

  3. Enter your ZIP code and click Find My Order.

  4. Click Return Items.

  5. Complete the form and submit it.

  6. Print confirmation page and a return label (or labels).

  7. Include the confirmation page and invoice or gift receipt inside the package.

  8. Stick the shipping label to the outside of the package.

  9. Drop off the package at a UPS location.

Please note: Bloomingdale’s will return packages without invoices or gift receipts to the sender.

How To Return Items With Bloomingdale’s B-Tags or Manufacturer’s Tags

  1. You must return the merchandise in new and unused condition.

  2. The Bloomingdale’s b-tags and designer garment tags must still be attached.

  3. Include any original accompanying materials such as belts, accessories, and designer packaging, like authenticity cards, dust bags, and leather tags

Note: Bloomingdale’s won’t accept items with missing tags or damaged, soiled, or altered garments.

How To Return an Item to a Vendor

How To Get a New Return Label

  1. Sign in to your Bloomingdale’s account and go to My Order Status & History, or use your order number as a guest.

  2. Click Order Details for the desired order.

  3. Choose items, quantity, return reason, and refund method if needed.

  4. Verify your email address.

  5. Click Continue.

  6. Review and submit your return.

  7. Print the confirmation and shipping label

Does Bloomingdale’s Refund Shipping Fees?

There are no refunds for shipping and handling costs.

How Does Bloomingdale’s Issue Refunds?

Here’s how the Bloomingdales refund policy works.

Credit or Debit Cards:

If you used a credit or debit card at a physical store, Bloomingdale’s will refund you via the original card you used.

Bloomingdale’s will refund your credit card for credit card payments online.

Bloomingdale’s Gift Cards:

The store will issue you a new gift card if you paid with Bloomingdale’s Gift Card.
